circles

My studio is not yet arranged as I want it, but there was space enough to start creating again :-). I do not remember anymore how I made this background, but I used bubblewrap to discharge the small circles. It needed a bit more, so yesterday I grapped some of my small bottles of Lumiere paint and started drawing circles on it. Now the fabric looks like this:

I think it is ready to sandwich it and start quilting.

New circles

Finally I was able to comple a quilt this week. It is another one in my circle series. This one I called 'Random Circles' and I used a mixture of commercial and hand dyed fabrics for it.

Size is 12"x24". The circles are hand drawn, which explains why they are not exactly round :-). Now back to making more samples for the Fire blog.

layers

It looks like I am neglecting my blog, but there are sometimes periods in which I do not have much to show. Showing a picture in which I am auditioning fabric for a project is a bit boring :-). Anyway for EB's masterclass this month the theme is layers. I tried different sketches, but fell back on to my favorite circles. To keep it consistent to all my other circle quilts, this one will be 12"x24" when it is finished. At the moment my layout looks like this:

The circles are a combination of hand dyed and commercial fabric. Background is a charcoal hand dyed fabric.

I printed the photo and drew the circles using a sharpie. EB's comment was that it looked like an armadillo :-)). If I make it like this, this name will be stuck to it forever.

Circles

Last month I created several pieces of fabric, which will keep me quilting for quite some time :-). With soy wax and a partly cut bristle brush I prepared a screen for printing. For the first fabric I used a blah snow dyed fabric which definately improved with this print. No idea yet what I will do with it.

Another piece of fabric was a long strip. I printed 3 purple circles on it and for the 2nd layer I used a golden metalic fabric paint. It is serendipity that the blue and pink showed up. A surprise I really liked. After the fabric had dried, I gave it a light silver/white colorwash.  I quilted this using - again - circles and this is how it now looks:

No idea yet what the title will be. I understand that when people work in series that they number their pieces. Not very original, but much easier than finding a new title every time again :-).

Bubbles

Till you start working with a theme you have no idea in how many ways you can use that theme. Here is another approach to circles:

This time it turned into a low contract quilt. The background is woven with two different batiks, both in grey/blue. Quilting is done by following the wavy lines. The smaller circles are placed in the 'squares' created by the quilting lines. For the small circles I used several colors out off my hand dyed stash.
