dyeing

I use a lot of green fabric in my work and my stash was getting low. Time to schedule a dyeing day. Besides a gradation and some parfait I also dyed these 2 fabrics:

This was done while the fabric was folding lenghtwise and then a cotton thread was tied around it. The pattern is very subtle.

And for this one I tied kumihimo bobbins and buttons in the fabric before I poored the dye powder over it and topped it with ice cubes. I took this picture during the melting:

For both pieces of fabric I used deep navy and golden yellow. And as it is Friday I am linking this post to Nina-Marie's Off the Wall Friday.

Besides fabric there are also other things you can dye. On the pictures you see some socks I dyed recently. Although you only see one of each on the pictures I dyed complete sets :-). For this I used left over dyes in different color combinations. If you want to do this too, look for socks with a high percentage of cotton. Mine were all above 70%. They don't have to be expensive. I bought mine on Ebay. Is it art: no. Is it fun: yes!

additive gradation

When you dye your own fabric, you can of course use the dyepowders as they are sold by the companies. Mixing dyepowders yourself is fun and gives sometimes surprising results. This picture shown fabric on which I used a combination of G&K nickel 603 and Dharma marigold 67. The nickel is gradated with 50% water with each f8 and 7,5 cc of marigold was added to each baggy. I had expected a much more greenish fabric but instead I got these lovely colors.
