Challenge quilts

As you might know I run another blog called 'Challenge quilts'. With this group we make 4 quilts size 20"x20" (50x50 cm) a year based on a theme. Due to circumstances some of the members had to leave the group which means that new members can enter. If you can commit yourself to this and want to join, please let me know.

A new beginning

For the Challenge group the present theme was a difficult one. It was what do you wish for the other members. I had a couple of ideas, but to visualize them was something else. Finally I decided to do it in an abstract style and this is the result. My wish is: creativity after a periode of bleakness, sunshine after darkness.
All fabrics are commercial batiks and the piece is machine quilted. Size 20"x20".

Above us only sky

The theme for the present Challenge quilt is Imagine. I decided to use John Lennon's song as inspiration source and specifically the line: Above us only sky. Imagine that you are lying in the grass and look up to the sky.

Although the due date is November, my quilt is already finished. Not really over achieving, but I had some time and an idea:-). Here are the pictures of the quilt:

As usual for this group the size of the quilt is 20"x20"(50x50 cm). I am able to use this quilt for the ALQS 2 swap I am participating in too as it matches the wishes of my partner.

workshop and challenge quilt

If you live around Amsterdam you might want to take the workshop I am teaching on October 25th at Birdblocks. Here you can read more details about it and how to sign up. I will be teaching raw edge applique, one of my favourite techniques. At the end of the workshop you will have made a small quilt.

On the Challenge group we are working with the theme 'Imagine'. I decided to focus on John Lennon's song and especially on the line: Above us only sky. On this picture you can see how

much I have done till today. I am also participating in the second ALQS swap and I think I am using this quilt for this swap at the same time. It fits what my partner wants:-).

challenge quilt

On my surfacing group we are working on a challenge quilt. The first round was make a quilt (40"x40") based on your surroundings. This quilt is the inspiration source for the 2nd round. As my inspiration source I choose the colors Marijke used in her quilt. I handdyed and handpainted the fabric and made it into a convergence quilt. Not my usual technique, but I like the result.
