Inspired by .... Vincent

A couple of weeks ago I showed the beginning of my quilt for the Sky is the Limit group. At that time nobody guessed correctly who the painter was which inspired me. I continued working on the quilt, removed the tape, added the quilting and the binding till it looked like this:



Still no clue? The next picture should give you the answer:

My inspiration was Vincent van Gogh and especially his painting of irises. I printed on transparency sheets, cut them in strips, removed half of them and painted the areas in between the strips with textile paints. Added some of the strips with eyelets and now it becomes recgnisable :-). The pictures are not the best. In reality the quilt is square (12"x12").

Windmills 2

A couple of days ago I posted the picture of my first windmills quilt for the Voyage group. As I made that one in the wrong size, I had to make another one. This one is done along the same idea and this time it is the correct size 10"x20". I double checked :-)). Here is the picture:



I added some other colors beside blue, because although I have a lot of fabric squares, I am running a bit low on the blue ones. Windmills are printed on Lutrador, the modern windmill is made from felt and all the other fabrics are handdyed ones.



new website

The website I had was way overdue with updating and this was something I could not do myself. Reason to do some research to find a website which I could update myself. Through one of my Yahoo-groups I heard of Weebly.com. Creating a website and updating it, is as simple as Blogspot. The most difficult part was to change the IP address of my host. Anyway, the new website is up. Please have a look and let me know if there are errors on it. Here is the link: www.wilopiooguta.com.

windmills

Without windmills half of the Netherlands would be cover by sea. The area where I live is around 13 feet below sealevel. Windmills are not only used to control the water level, they were also used for sawing wood, grinding wheat and other tasks. Nowadays the modern windmills are used mainly for energy. In honor of these windmills I made this quilt. Background is a split nine patch, the windmills are printed onto Lutrador and the modern windmill is made from felt. My idea was to use this quiltlet as one for the Voyage group, only I made the s****d mistake of making the quilt in the wrong size. It should have been 10"x20" and this quilt is 12"x20".

Not that I have anything else to do in my freetime, but it looks like I have to make something like this one more time :-(.

Easter means for me a couple of days off or in other words full time studio time :-). I continued working on the background I showed 2 days ago. Maybe a bit unusual, but I prefer to do the quilting before I add the applique. For this quilt I used a metallic blue Madeira and quilted in wavy lines. Here is a detail of how the top looks now:

Not surprisingly my OCA course is keeping me busy, but in between everything I started on my 2nd Voyage quilt. The background is completed. I made this split nine patch from a lot of blue sample squares I have. I know that this background does not give any clue to what is coming :-) Just wait and see.
