Contrast

This month the theme for Sky is the Limit is contrast. When I read this, my first idea was that I should make something with black/white and red, but after a bit more thinking I decided against it. Not that I don't love that color combination, but more that I have used it too often. So thinking cap was put on again and I came up with a complete different idea. This is how it looks:

The contrast is between the evergreen pines and the lonely deciduous tree. Also you can read in it the contrast between green - color of life - and brown - color of decay/death. The fabrics I used are all my own hand dyed ones. The only thing missing is a proper title, but no doubt that will come.
I am linking this post to Nina-Marie's Off the Wall Friday. Check out this blog to see what others have done this week.

Very nice treatment of contrast. I never would have thought of that.

The challenge group that I belonged to had contrast for the quilt that is due at the end of March. I was going to do a quilt of the Earth seen from the moon. (A planet of life and a dead world) This week I decided to drop out of the challenge group. I have been doing these kinds of challenges for 3 years and had had enough of them. They were taking too much time from other things.

Nice! How about alone in the pine forest. Love your fabrics

The way you've arranged the trees and positioned the contrasting ones leads the eye so easily around the composition. So nicely balanced and the theme subtly rendered with layers of meaning. Nice job!

Yes, teaching quilters the principles of design is very difficult. They are so used to using patterns that are all planned out for them. Understanding contrast is so important.
